PARK PROCESS

COLLECTIVE STRING-WEBS NYC
May 20 2007 CENTRAL PARK

Collective String-Web worked as a Celebration of Life in Central Park on the green hill next to Naumberg Bandshell.

Central Park Conservatory staff came when the Blue-Baseline rope was almost up, after 5-10 minutes, which was expected. Karoline negotiated with them, and we were allowed to COLLECTIVE STRING-WEB for 15 minutes. (Expanded to 25 minutes + 15 starting minutes = total of 40 min).

To get a park permit for an art installation(including ephemeral ones) in Central Park takes up to 20 years, and most applications are rejected. This is information from NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.

Thus we chose to just go there, and do it, and clean up afterwards.
We would chose a Collective Strategy to get it going as fast as possible.
As you can see many passers-by joined in - youngsters, children, adults.

String-Web Strategy: All participants starting at the same time, getting as much string up at the least time, to get the Collective String Web going fast and with least attention.
Two teams of 2 people would set-up Blue-Base-Line ropes, rest of participants would start stringing from the trees and the Blue-Base-Line.

When Blue-Base-Line was up Collective String-Web would already be rocking around the Blue-Base-Line shape: A 5-Angle-Star with the Eagle's on the flagpost as top-point on the green hill.

We are sorry if any participants invited via mailing list could not find us, when the big Aids Walk was in the Naumberg Bandshell area. Some participants called our media phone to find us. # 347 614-9778.

Jasmine waited by the Naumberg Bandshell from 2:50pm till 3:30pm to pick up participants and direct them to the green hill.
At 3:30pm Karoline gave instructions for Collective String-Web Strategy.
